Architect- Ron Thom
West Coast Modern
A Ron Thom house from 1962, one of the defining works of West Coast Modernism. The architecture is what brings people to this house—the non-orthogonal glazed corners that frame the city and the water, the angled ceiling planes that follow the roof geometry, the original vertical cedar panelling that still carries the interior.

Light Touch
Our work was an interior renovation and softscape refresh for a homeowner who wanted the house to function for contemporary life without losing what made it worth living in. New flooring, new kitchen and bathrooms, and new millwork were executed within the existing plan; the original cedar walls, the soffits, the glazed corners, and the spatial sequence Thom drew were left alone.

Soft Renewal
The cedar panelling stayed exactly as it was, scuffs and patina included, because sixty years of light landing on that wood is part of the house. The new work was kept quiet enough to recede behind the architecture. A Ron Thom house is a difficult thing to be trusted with, and we treated it that way.
